  14. I run a program that searchs for, and issues advisory cancels for,
  15. large binaries in the akr, biz, comp, misc, news, rec, and sci
  16. hierarchies.

  18. I have issued 20 cancels for large binary files (average size 140,429
  19. characters - total size 2,808,588 characters) posted to 7 different
  20. unmoderated discussion groups in the rec, misc, comp, and sci
  21. hierarchies as follows:
  22.   10 sci.lang.translation
  23.    4 comp.databases.ms-access
  24.    2 comp.dcom.modems
  25.    1 rec.games.bolo
  26.    1 misc.test
  27.    1 comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.sports
  28.    1 comp.emulators.misc
  29.  
  30. This pointer is being posted to each affected group listed above,
  31. with the exception of test groups.  Follow-ups are directed to
  32. news.admin.net-abuse.misc.

  34. If you want to see exactly which file was deleted from a particular
  35. group, or the criteria that I used to select it, read the full report
  36. in news.admin.net-abuse.announce.  Look for AR249 in the subject.
  37. The full report can also be found in alt.nocem.misc and alt.retromod.

  39. If you must post a binary to Usenet, please post it *only* to an
  40. appropriate binaries newsgroup such as alt.binaries.misc, and do *not*
  41. crosspost it to non-binaries groups.  Then, if you like, post something
  42. in the appropriate discussion group telling people where to find the
  43. binary in the binaries group (a pointer to the binary).  This will
  44. permit news administrators and users to decide for themselves whether
  45. to receive the binary files.
